FRANKIE JAE landed a part in a SKY Music project, MILES DAVIS secured a role in a new project called ‘Love Language’, ABBIE SALTER worked hard this month to land a role in new project ‘Here’, and after working extremely hard in this year’s summer school on voiceover skills, MARK BARRON has been non-stop working with his most recent credit a voiceover on an exciting new project! We can’t wait to share more about these exciting projects soon!

Starting November with a BANG with Team MJ! 

We’re all fired up after an incredibly busy few weeks with some dynamite success stories to tell you. November looks set to be a firecracker of a month! 

From the National Television Awards to Netflix and the BAFTAs to the BBC, there’s so much MJ news this month, here’s a few highlights – keep scrolling!!

TWO of our students are set to star in an ABSOLUTELY HUGE new Netflix series – after they were cast at Industry Week. Big, big congrats to ASH SELF and LJ BENNION who nailed it at this summer’s Industry Week. The heartwarming video shows off a group of children with Down’s Syndrome who are part of a very special drama group – a group that’s produced a BBC star on an award-winning show.

They’re proving there’s far, far more to them than the condition that 41,000 live with in the UK.

The video is part of a high-profile national campaign called ‘Hands Up For Down’s’ by the Swansea-based charity of the same name, alongside stage school and talent agency Mark Jermin – all part of Down Syndrome Awareness Month this October.

The video asks the questions – “Hands up if you see the child? Hands up if you see the disability? Hands up if you see what’s beneath that?’’ – with the children showing off exactly what they are capable of and what the child can be when they grow up, despite their disability.

One of the stars is nine-year-old Olivia Southgate who, through the drama group run by Mark Jermin, has landed a role in the BBC BAFTA-award-winning drama In My Skin. Olivia plays the role of Ffion in the hit series.

Leading acting coach and talent agent Mark Jermin said: “Approximately 41,000 people live with Down’s Syndrome in the UK and it’s absolutely vital we break the stigma and stereotypes associated with them.

“Hands Up For Down’s is our way of doing that. This video shows we can put our hands up and listen to the child beneath it.”

The video is played to the hit tune of ‘Hands Up, Baby Hands Up’ by Boney M. The video playing to the aptly-named tune was the brainchild of Mark, when the children of the charity asked him to help create a performance to raise awareness this October.

Mark and the team jumped straight to it and contacted Boney M directly and received the rights to the song for the video!

The group, funded by Swansea City Council, meets weekly at Swansea arts centre Venue No.1, part of the Mark Jermin group.

Mark added: “I love teaching the children each week and we really wanted to produce something that helped people to understand what the children are capable of despite their disability. We thought that the song choice was very aptly chosen and got to work right away on the campaign’’

The Hands Up For Down’s charity is trying to raise funds to create an annual ball where children and parents can celebrate and meet like-minded people, while creating a collaborative space to honour their members each year. A JustGiving fundraising campaign has been launched to achieve this alongside the video. You can donate here

The video has sparked an emotive reaction on social media with the inspiring performances by the children. Down’s Syndrome is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome in their genetic make-up but that doesn’t mean they will develop in the same way – all children in the class have different levels of abilities and needs all of which are showcased and celebrated in the video.

Mark added: “All of this comes from the children’s weekly drama classes in which they study mime, roleplay, confidence building and so many more skills that help them to be the best version of themselves.”

What an incredible start to autumn! 

Can you believe September is over already? We’ve had the best month getting back to classes – online and in-person, seeing old faces and lots of new ones too! 

It’s been a super successful month over at Mark Jermin Management too, with loads of our students & clients landing new roles, pencils and auditions!

FINTAN BUCKARD (pictured) started filming this month for CBBC’s Phoenix Rise.

OLIVER MANLEY has been filming for a UK wide BUPA campaign after attending Commercial Acting Class with Mark at Industry Week.

HARRY SPALDING, TOBIAS FREDRIKSON are going BACK on the Norwegian Cruise with the company of ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’  in the role of Benji… Mark Jermin Management will be looking for 2 more boys to join this amazing opportunity soon! 

 

ALEXA and SEB GOODALL (SIBLINGS):  Alexa has recently filmed a commercial campaign for Haven and both Alexa and Seb have been asked to return to film a second Nintendo campaign.

STANLEY POTTER and CONALL TURNER landed roles in an upcoming UK TV 30th Gold Commercial. Stanley has also landed a role in a Shelter campaign alongside JUDE UGHEBE.

SIXTEEN MJ STUDENTS landed roles in a much-anticipated, returning Netflix series (we can’t say!!) more details of this will be on our socials soon! 

HARRY and HUW HUCKSTEP It’s a Double Bubble for this family as both brothers are working non-stop. Student Harry has recently been filming a MAJOR UK commercial campaign while brother Huw has is working on a voiceover project.

Remember we offer SIBLING DISCOUNT at Mark Jermin and are always looking for real family members for roles.

It’s The Dumping Ground’s 10th Anniversary At Mark Jermin we are incredibly proud of our industry connections and the relationships we have with casting agents. One of those relationships we’re so proud of, is the one we have with the wonderful folk behind The Dumping Ground! Over the years, SO MANY Mark Jermin students and clients have found themselves at home in TDG, so when we found out they were bringing it back for a 10th series, we knew exactly what needed to be done! On Friday we revealed two more MJ students would be going down in TDG hall of fame…
