Head of Accents and Dialect: SARAH ENGLISH
Sarah is London-based Dialect Coach, and a graduate of the The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama’s MA Voice Studies program. She arrived at RCSSD with almost 20 years of teaching experience, working primarily in child and youth performance education, and as an actor, having performed in theatres across Canada. In addition to teaching Accents and Dialects at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama on the Acting for Screen MA program, Sarah leads the voice program at London Studio Centre, and is an accent coach for individuals, workshops, and productions.
Using a variety of tools and approaches, the heart of her work comes from a sense of play, and the goal is to let the accent support the actor’s performance, with an aim of accuracy and vocal embodiment. For some actors, we will focus on the muscularity of an accent, for others the movement and musicality. It depends on the actor! What are the key features we can listen out for? What visual, aural and sensorial connections are needed for YOU to best adopt this accent?
