05 Sep 2019 Local students soar in TV and Theatre and put their hometown on the map!

Past and Present students of The Mark Jermin Stage School hailing from the Welsh Valleys are welcoming success after starring in stage and screen projects. The Stage School that has branches in Pontypridd and Caerphilly are launching the careers of many local students and YOUR child could be next!

As we prepare for the big return to School this week, many students are looking ahead to their intimidating move to Comprehensive School, their end of year GCSE and A Level exams or even preparing to submit their choices for university. With most students preparing for these academic milestones, these Pontypridd and Caerphilly students are preparing for a future in the creative industry thanks to the support, training and encouragement of one Stage School team.

The Mark Jermin Stage is a family-run theatrical training school which allows passionate performers and students to explore the many opportunities that the world of theatre has to offer. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or a beginner looking to make new friends and build confidence, the Mark Jermin Stage School offers weekly training in the main disciplines of Singing, Dance and Acting. The Stage School also offered a supportive environment for students to explore their imagination and creativity, develop their confidence and make new friends. The schools prides itself on giving young people expert teaching, building their confidence whilst having fun and offering excellent performance opportunities and amazing, unlimited, unique experiences.

The Stage School has a long list of Alumni who have gone from attending their weekly Stage School classes to treading the boards on the West End or even appearing in a range of TV and Film projects. The Stage School is best known for past students including Emily Tucker who has been a regular on S4C’s Pobol Y Cwm since the age of 17, Marc Antolin who is a West End performer recently nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical and Alexandra Roach who is best known for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady. Among these three ambassadors for The Mark Jermin Stage School are a whole host of West End performers, professional actors, theatre technicians, university lecturers and Casting Agents who have all moved on from the stage school to carve their own career in the creative industry. The Mark Jermin Stage School has recently seen a new group of Caerphilly and Pontypridd students who have flown the nest to make big leaps in developing their training and careers in TV, Film and Stage.

Past student Rebecca Acock has just finished filming a huge Disney remake of the hit film “Watcher In The Woods” along with “The Cleansing”  with current student Eva Ossei Gerning storming the boards at CBBC, starring in multiple upcoming programmes on the successful Children’s Television Channel. Eva has also reached the final three for a very exciting project that will be filming overseas however this top secret information is yet to be revealed. Local Actor, Lee Shepherd, is a familiar face on screen taking on roles in BBC’s Casualty and also appearing in commercials for The British Heart Foundation and supermarket Co-op.

From screen to stage, Valleys Actress Jade Croot has seen unprecedented success since her time at The Mark Jermin Stage School. Jade’s first professional job saw her treading the boards at the Royal Shakespeare Company and leaving her weekly stage school class to pursue a professional career in London. Jade also starred as ‘Kit’ in The Fantastic Mr Fox at the Nuffield Theatre Southampton and The Leicester Curve Theatre, Jade most recently starred in the Channel 4 TV Series ‘The Light’.

Students from the Valley’s Stage Schools have also gained the support and training required to secure them spaces in some of the UK’s most prestigious Drama Colleges. Past student Lewys Hynes will be preparing to begin his first term at the London School of Musical Theatre while William Heale will be leaving his weekly class behind to study at Italia Conti School. Also taking the leap from Pontypridd to London is student Rowan Thorne who has gained a place at the very prestigious Rose Bruford School in London where he will continue his training in acting for both stage and screen. Waving the flag for the girls is Samantha Spragg, an alumni student of the Pontypridd school who has proudly gained a place at Emil Dale Academy to study musical theatre in September. Aaron Price, a past student of the Caerphilly Stage School was also the recipient of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Scholarship at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Acting and continues to apply his Mark Jermin Stage School skills and training to his further education and professional casting experiences.

The success of these Valleys students past, present and no doubt future shines an ever positive light on the small towns of Pontypridd and Caerphilly, in the hopes of inspiring more children than ever to dive head first into the world of performing. The Mark Jermin Stage School continues to provide first class training for students age 4-18 across South Wales including the Pontypridd and Caerphilly branches who are proud to watch these successful students create waves in the world of Theatre and TV. The Mark Jermin Stage School is now opening its doors to welcome new students to continue the success in Pontypridd and Caerphilly! Each brand new student will also receive a FREE TRIAL allowing them to experience the class and meet the team ahead of enrolling as an official student of the Mark Jermin Stage School. Classes take place every Wednesday in St Martins School, Caerphilly and every Saturday morning in Garth Olwg Lifelong Learning Centre, Pontypridd.
